Instructions for Storage and Use of Edible Images
-
Place the edible image in the freezer for no longer than 5 minutes.
-
Remove the backing from the image by bending the backing away from the image immediately upon removal from the freezer.
-
The image should release easily, but you must work fast as it thaws quickly. If the image re-sticks to the backing, place it back in the freezer for 1-5 minutes, then remove and repeat the above steps.
-
Plan the placement carefully, as the edible image cannot be moved once it is applied.
-
Place the edible image on the cake, starting in the center of the image. Gently smooth the image using your hand.
-
Add any additional frosting or decorations.
-
For uncut images or images you would like to trim, cut them while the sheet is warm using a sharp knife or scissors. (The backing will still need to be removed.)
-
If you are using buttercream frosting, follow steps 1-7.
-
If you are using edible images on ice cream, remove the ice cream from the freezer just long enough for it to start sweating. Then, apply the edible image using steps 2-7 above.
-
If you are using non-dairy or whipped topping frosting, follow steps 2-7 as quickly as possible. The whipped toppings have a much higher water content and do not need water in any way.
-
For fondant or sugar paste applications, use a small paintbrush to brush the area of application with a small amount of water. Then, follow steps 2-7.
-
Use a high-quality edible image printer. This will ensure that the images are clear and vibrant.
-
Choose the right size image for your cake. You don't want the image to be too small or too large.
-
If you are using a multi-image sheet, plan out where you want to place each image before you start.
-
Be careful not to overwork the image. If you press too hard, you could damage the image.

Enjoy your delicious and beautiful dessert!
